Community Outreach 2021

An American Flag will be presented to each new Habitat For Humanity homeowner in Okaloosa County.

The Community Outreach Committee’s October mission is to finalize the collection of spare change from RWOF members for the Coins for Good jar. We will deliver the aggregate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida after the September membership meeting.

Since opening in 1984, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida has served as a source of respite and resources for families who travel to Pensacola to receive critical medical treatment for their children.

Small change makes a big difference…

A dime here. A quarter there. It might not seem like much. But when many folks give, the amount those coins help children and families is truly amazing.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida’s philosophy is simple: nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child—not where they can afford to stay, get their next meal, or where they will lay their head at night to rest. When you donate, you are helping continue their mission of keeping families close. 100% of your donations go directly to the House and helping families face the most difficult time of their lives.

As always, participation in RWOF’s Community Outreach Committee program is NOT MANDATORY—only do what makes you comfortable and THANK YOU in advance for your support.

Attend the dedication of the Women Veterans’ Memorial at Veterans Park on Okaloosa Island at 2:00 p.m. Wear your Community Outreach shirt.

The memorial consists of eight bronze, life-like statues of women who made significant military service contributions during periods of major conflicts throughout U.S. history as suggested by District 2 Commissioner Carolyn Ketchel. The memorial honors those women chosen by the county Women’s Veteran Memorial Advisory Committee and approved by the County Commission are as follows:

Margaret Corbin—Revolutionary War

Cathay Williams—Civil War

Lenah Higbee—World War I

Jacqueline Cochran—World War II

Jonita Bonham—Korean War

Sharon Lane Persian—Vietnam War

Leigh Ann Hester—Gulf War

Nasima Dada—War in Afghanistan

Our December program is supporting the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center which helps prevent child abuse and neglect, protect children, and restore the lives and futures of impacted children. The Centers in Walton and Okaloosa Counties house a multidisciplinary team of child protection personnel, prosecutors, law enforcement, Department of Children and Families (DCF), therapists, staff, and volunteers.
